Baker Sterchi Cowden & Rice associate Shatrasha Stone has been elected to serve as the 2019-2020 Chairperson of the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis Young Lawyers Division (BAMSL YLD). She was sworn in as Chairperson at BAMSL’s annual Law Day celebration on Thursday, May 2 at the Missouri Athletic Club in Downtown St. Louis.
Comprised of lawyers 36 years old or younger, or who are within five years of their first bar admission, BAMSL’s YLD is governed by an executive committee of young lawyers elected by the YLD membership each year. Stone previously served as the YLD Chair-Elect and is the creator and annual organizer of the YLD “We the Students” program established in 2016 for the purpose of educating students about their basic legal rights and about what attorneys do.
“I am honored to serve as the Chairperson of BAMSL’s Young Lawyers Division,” said Shatrasha Stone. “I look forward to leading the division as it continues to build pathways for new programs, new ideas, and new faces, including pathways to leadership in our organization for diverse young attorneys.”
Stone’s leadership extends to the Missouri Bar as a Young Lawyers Council Member and the Mound City Bar Association as an Executive Board Member. She is also a member of the American Bar Association, Missouri Organization of Defense Lawyers, Theodore McMillian Inns of Court, and the Women Lawyer’s Association of Greater St. Louis, as well as an alumnus of the Missouri Bar Association’s Leadership Academy and a past recipient of the John C. Shepherd Professionalism Award.
Stone began her legal career as an Assistant City Counselor for the City of St. Louis, serving as legal counsel for St. Louis City disciplinary and administrative matters, in addition to personal injury litigation in both State and Federal court. Her current practice is focused on litigation with an emphasis in medical malpractice, insurance litigation, personal injury defense, and general liability claims.
