Melesa Johnson Chosen to Join Missouri Bar Leadership Academy Class of 2017-2018
Baker Sterchi Cowden & Rice associate Melesa Johnson has been chosen to join the 2017-2018 class of The Missouri Bar Leadership Academy. The Leadership Academy was developed in 2000 with a mission to recruit, train, and retain young or recently admitted lawyers (under age 40 or less than 10 years of practice) for leadership positions in the Missouri Bar.
Limited to twelve or fewer members each year, Leadership Academy class members participate in the Missouri Bar Annual Meeting, Board of Governors meetings, committee meetings, and workshops specifically designed for the Leadership Academy. For one year, the members work closely with bar leaders to learn more about the Missouri Bar, cultivate leadership skills, and develop a public service project. At the end of the year, members commit to serve the Missouri Bar in an active capacity for two years.
Melesa is a former Assistant Jackson County Prosecutor and currently serves as a member of the Kansas City Liquor Control Review Board and the Jackson County Community Backed Anti-Drug Sales Tax (COMBAT) Drug Commission. She also serves as a Lead to Read volunteer at Garfield Elementary School during the school year. She is the recipient of The Missouri Bar 2017 Tom Cochran Community Service Award. Her practice with Baker Sterchi Cowden & Rice is devoted to the defense of civil litigation.
