A twelve-person jury deliberated for four hours after an eight-day trial in St. Louis County, siding with our hospital client and our co-defendant in a wrongful death medical malpractice case brought by the parent of a 32-year old woman who died from a pulmonary embolism. At trial, plaintiff claimed our client’s emergency department failed to timely and adequately assess and treat the patient’s complaints of shortness of breath and chest tightness. Plaintiff’s counsel asked the jury to award $1 million for past and future non-economic damages. In returning a verdict for defendant, no damages were awarded to plaintiff.
