John Cowden Recognized as a 2018 Missouri Lawyers Weekly ICON Award Recipient

Missouri Lawyers Weekly has recognized Baker Sterchi Cowden & Rice attorney John Cowden as a 2018 ICON Award recipient. Cowden is one of 25 attorneys from around the state to receive the award, which honors attorneys age 60 or older for their exemplary careers and longstanding commitment to the Missouri legal community.

The inaugural list of honorees includes judges, founding partners, mediators, a former U.S. Senator and legal scholars. Honorees will be recognized at a luncheon to be held at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis on June 1, and will also be profiled in a special section of Missouri Lawyers Weekly to be published the week of May 28.

Cowden was assigned to the JAG Branch of the U.S. Army and is a Former Assistant Attorney General of the State of Missouri. He is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates. He has served as a faculty member of the IADC Trial Academy, Master of the Ross T. Roberts Inn of Court, and is a University of Missouri School of Law Order of the Barristers Honorary Initiate.

Cowden has been the recipient of numerous awards throughout his career, including receiving the “Dean of the Trial Bar” award from the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association in 2010, the “Best of the Bar” award from The Kansas City Business Journal in 2006 and 2017, and the “Congenial Counselor Award from the Missouri Bar in 2008. He has been recognized by Chambers USA since 2008, Best Lawyers in America since 2012, and Super Lawyers since 2005. He received special recognition from Best Lawyers in 2017 as the Product Liability Litigation – Defendants “Lawyer of the Year” in Kansas City, and from Super Lawyers as a Top 100 Kansas City, Missouri and Top 50 Kansas City, Missouri attorney for numerous years. He is an AV Preeminent Peer Review rated attorney by Martindale-Hubbell.
