Baker Sterchi Cowden & Rice continued its long tradition as a law firm sponsor of the Annual Judge Kit Carson Roque, Jr. Scholarship Banquet, by sponsoring the 2017 banquet held at the Sheraton Crown Center in Kansas City, Missouri on October 7.
Organized by the Jackson County Bar Association (JCBA), a voluntary bar association comprised primarily of African-Americans from throughout the Kansas City metropolitan area, the purpose of the banquet is to raise funds for the scholarship established in 1998 to honor the late Judge Kit Carson, Jr. Scholarships are presented annually to deserving minority law students from area law schools who demonstrate academic achievement, financial need, and community service.
Baker Sterchi Cowden & Rice associate Melesa Johnson, a member of the 2017 Scholarship Banquet Planning Committee, presented The Judge Lewis W. Clymer Award at the banquet. The 2017 Clymer Award, recognizing a minority attorney for their service to the community and promotion of the integrity of the legal profession, was presented by Johnson to Judge Jalilah Otto.
