Baker Sterchi Cowden & Rice associate Melesa Johnson was recently recognized as a Missouri Lawyers Weekly Up & Coming award recipient at a luncheon held at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis.
The Up & Coming award is given annually to lawyers who are 40 years or younger or within the first 10 years of practice, who epitomize excellence in the legal community and are considered as leaders in the community-at-large. According to the publication, the number of nominations received for this year’s Up & Coming award was likely higher than any prior year.
Johnson is a former Assistant Jackson County Prosecutor and currently serves as a member of the Kansas City Liquor Control Review Board and the Jackson County Community Backed Anti-Drug Sales Tax (COMBAT) Drug Commission. She also serves as a Lead to Read volunteer at Garfield Elementary School during the school year. She is the recipient of The Missouri Bar 2017 Tom Cochran Community Service Award, and was recently chosen to join the 2017-2018 class of The Missouri Bar Leadership Academy. Her practice with Baker Sterchi Cowden & Rice is devoted to the defense of civil litigation.
