BAMSL Honors Baker Sterchi Member Paul Venker with 2021 Distinguished Lawyer Award

The Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis (BAMSL) has selected Baker Sterchi Member Paul Venker to receive its 2020-2021 Distinguished Lawyer Award.

According to BAMSL, the Distinguished Lawyer Award is the highest honor given by the association. It is given annually to a lawyer who has made a great and lasting contribution to the St. Louis region in the area of law and community service, has motivated other lawyers to work in the public interest, and who exemplifies lawyers as good citizens contributing significantly to the community.

Venker is a member of the Board of Directors and a Past-President of the St. Louis Bar Foundation, a non-profit entity that serves as the community outreach arm for BAMSL. Since 2015, he has served as Chairman of the Freedom Suits Memorial Steering Committee, whose mission is to bring to reality the dream of the Hon. David C. Mason of a memorial to honor courageous slave plaintiffs who sued for their freedom in the decades leading up to the Civil War. A ceremony to break ground for the Memorial will occur on the east side of the Civil Courts Building in downtown St. Louis on July 28, 2021.

Over his career, Venker has been both an active trial and appellate attorney. He has been recognized by membership in several professional organizations, including the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA).

The August edition of BAMSL’s monthly publication, the St. Louis Lawyer, will include profiles of all 2020-2021 BAMSL Law Day Award winners, and BAMSL’s 2020-2021 President, the Hon. Glenn Norton, will present Venker with the Distinguished Lawyer Award during a Law Day celebration on Sept. 9 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Downtown St. Louis.
