Baker Sterchi Member Laura Beasley to Serve as 2020-2021 President Elect of IDC


Baker Sterchi Cowden & Rice attorney Laura Beasley will serve as the 2020-2021 President Elect of the Illinois Defense Counsel (IDC). Founded in 1964, IDC is a premier association of attorneys in Illinois who devote a substantial portion of their practice to the representation of business, corporate, insurance, professional, and other individual defendants in civil litigation.

Beasley, a Member in Baker Sterchi’s Belleville, Illinois office, has served in other leadership roles with IDC. She is also a board member of both the St. Clair County Bar Association and the State and Local Defense Organizations (SLDO) section of the Defense Research Institute, as well as a hearing officer for the Illinois Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission, and a member of the Illinois Supreme Courts Committee on Character and Fitness for the Fifth Judicial District. She is a past president of both the St. Clair County and East St. Louis Bar Associations, serving as the first woman president of the latter. 

Having undertaken over 40 jury trials in both state and federal courts, Beasley’s practice is primarily focused in the areas of civil litigation defense, general liability, class action/mass torts, insurance coverage, personal injury, and product liability. She represents individuals, institutions and corporate clients in all phases of litigation. 

Beasley earned her Bachelor of Science from Austin Peay University and her law degree from Southern Illinois University School of Law. She is licensed to practice in Illinois, Missouri and the United States District Courts of the Southern, Northern and Central Districts of Illinois and the Eastern District of Missouri.
