Baker Sterchi Associate Shatrasha Stone’s article “Young Lawyers’ Response to COVID-19 and What You Can Do” appears in the May edition of St. Louis Lawyer magazine, a Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis (BAMSL) publication.
Stone’s article offers insight into opportunities available to young lawyers within and outside of BAMSL’s Young Lawyers’ Division (YLD) during the current COVID-19 crisis, from volunteering to speak with law students, presenting online CLEs, and providing pro bono legal services, to focusing on health and well-being. The article also provides guidance for law students who have had law firm offers rescinded during the crisis. Stone notes that any such deferral “is not personal, it is a business, and an economic decision made to ensure the longevity of that particular firm.” She goes on to encourage students to “take initiative, be resilient [and] look for volunteer opportunities” during the crisis.
Stone, whose practice is focused on medical malpractice, personal injury and general liability defense, is the Immediate Past Chair of the Young Lawyers Division of the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis, with the May article being her last article for the publication as Chair. Stone is also a member of the Executive Board of the Mound City Bar Association, a Council Member of the Young Lawyers’ Section of the Missouri Bar, and a member of the Theodore McMillian Inn of Court. Shepherd Professionalism Award and a Missouri Bar Association Leadership Academy alumni, Stone is a graduate of St. Louis University School of Law.Comprised of lawyers 36 years old or younger, or within five years of their first bar admission, BAMSL’s YLD is governed by an executive committee of young lawyers elected by the YLD membership each year.
