HISTORY AND PRACTICE

Baker Sterchi Cowden & Rice, L.L.C. (BSCR) was formed by four lawyers as a small litigation firm in 1982. Since then, we’ve grown considerably and now maintain offices in Kansas City, Missouri, St. Louis, Missouri and Overland Park, Kansas. 

As we’ve grown, so have our practice areas, which now include: Civil and Complex Litigation, Regional and National Litigation Management, Aviation, Business, Construction, Employment, Environmental, Fidelity and Surety, Insurance, Pharmaceutical, Product Liability and Professional Liability.
 
We strive to establish long-term relationships with our clients.  Our approach is to determine and anticipate each client’s needs so we can provide the best possible legal support.

LITIGATION PREVENTION

We believe the best approach to litigation is prevention.  Policies and procedures designed to reduce or eliminate circumstances giving rise to litigation can significantly reduce a company’s exposure to claims.  We are qualified to evaluate and advise our clients in such areas as product warnings, regulatory compliance, communications and consumer information.  Careful attention to these areas can and does reduce the volume and impact of lawsuits.

COMMITMENT TO DIVERSITY

BSCR has been active in pursuing diversity in the workplace for many years.  We are a founding member of and provide financial support to the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association Diversity Program. We help organize and participate annually in local and regional job fairs designed to attract ethnically diverse candidates. We maintain a standing Diversity Committee within the firm to guide and promote the firm’s diversity efforts. We subscribe to the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association Action Plan to enhance racial and ethnic diversity throughout the metropolitan legal community. We support several minority and women’s legal organizations locally and nationally.
